The construction of a public and social building named European Roma Cultural and Sports Centre is planned in the settlement of Želiski, near Pula.

Cultural and sport centre
The Roma Association in Croatia, as the investor for this project, endeavours to form a unique cultural and sports centre that will also incorporate auxiliary content in the form of accommodation capacities. The basic concept of the building aligns with the main use of the Centre as a multifunctional complex for educational, social and sports activities for the beneficiaries.
A central yard, or square, is located at the entrance. It will serve as a gathering and meeting place for the future beneficiaries. Other elements are formed around the Yard in three rectangular wings. Every part of the building provides a view of the central yard with a small circular amphitheatre that serves as a place for sitting and socialising, similar to gathering around a “campfire”. The circular shape also has the symbolic value of a wheel and motion, symbolising the traditional Roma way of life and movement forward, towards the future.
At the very entrance to the building is a glass-enclosed “bridge” that connects the two wings of the building along the first floor. It can be used to show different items of information about the work of the Centre using lighting effects and projections.
Inside the building is a number of zones with different elements. The central zone contains a multifunctional space intended for various social and cultural activities – workshops, shows, exhibitions, presentations. The left wing of the building holds an enclosed pool, along with a sauna and recreation area. To the rear of the building is a smaller, open-air pool, and an educational orchard.
